When Jesus was being tortured and was being taken to be crucified, He prayed to God "Father, please forgive them for they do not know what they are doing", (forgive those who were crucifying him). Why did he not instead pray "Father, give them correct wisdom, (so that they can discern what is the right thing to do, so that they know what they are doing). Father give them the intellect to decide this is wrong." If they were just forgiven they might have committed similar act again, torture some innocent one again. That event was necessary for the fate of mankind. If it hadn't happened, we'd all be heading for hell because we wouldn't be able to pray for forgiveness. That event was a once-in-a-lifetime thing. It never happened before and it surely won't happen again because after Jesus rose from the dead, he had many followers and believers. Even the people who crucified him were in awe. So if what Jesus had been telling them all along (that he's the son of God) happened to be true, why would they repeat the same mistake to someone else? Q. Hi :) I'm reading a book called "Compassion, Justice and the Christian Life" by Robert D. Lupton. In this book he makes a vague reference to "Ancient Hebrew Wisdom" Is this a term you're familiar with? And if so, can you tell me what it refers to? He then describes "four levels of charity", the highest being providing employment for someone in need while remaining anonymous, the second highest is providing employment and not being anonymous, the third is to give an anonymous donation, and the fourth is to give to someone who knows you're the donor. He doesn't give any biblical references at all, and he doesn't state what he means by "Ancient Hebrew Wisdom".
